Sceptron RangeMore pixel battens added – IP65 rated Martin 10mm pitch options in hire stock now

The Martin VDO Sceptron 10 is the highest resolution version from the Sceptron range, and essentially is a 1m RGB batten with a 10mm pixel pitch. Best used in multiples, the Sceptron can be controlled either by DMX or via the Martin P3 control system, and each batten can be used in RGB, segment or full pixel map modes. The IPS units have already been on various shows over the summer – including an appearance at Glastonbury. The Sceptron units are fully IP65 rated, so ideal for outdoor use, and with a range of different shaped diffuser options can be used for a variety of looks from the same unit. These units are ready to rent in a modular flight case system - check out the latest hire prices here.

Each of the VDO Sceptron 10 units is 1m long, and weighs just 1.2kg. Each batten runs on 48v via a Martin P3 PowerPort 1500 drive unit with daisy chain links, and provides a 750 lumen output with a maximum power consumption of 33 watts per unit. Sceptron battens run on BBD connectors, which is an IP rated cabling system, now also available from IPS in a range of lengths. The Martin P3 PowerPort 1500 has four outputs, and each can drive up to 10 Sceptron battens, with a total cable length of 50m (including fixture length) per output. The maximum power supply needed for the PowerPort is around 8 amps. The power supply must be located in a dry location.

Sceptron AccessoriesDifferent looks can be created using the range of diffusers that can be fitted to the batten. The units can be used bare to show pixels, or there are three other options in stock at IPS – a flat diffused version, a tubular version, and an oversized tubular version. The diffusers give an even output of colour along the length of the fixture – and when joined together in lines create bold bars of colour.

The VDO Sceptron can be controlled via either Martin's P3 control system, or via DMX. Each unit requires between 3 and 307 DMX channels per unit, depending on the mode, and there are also a range of built in effects pre-programmed into the system. A popular way to run these battens is via a pixel mapping mode from a lighting desk – such as the recently upgraded Chamsys MagicQ desks also available from IPS.

The units can be sat on any flat surface, and IPS also stock linear couplers to join the units end to end to create a continuous strip. Alternatively, IPS also have sliding clamps available with half couplers to allow the battens to be attached to truss uprights – and all kinds of other surfaces. The sliding clamps have an M12 thread, so the units could also be bolted through a set panel if required.

**November Update** 320mm long units added to hire stock

The Martin VDO Sceptron units sit alongside the 20mm pitch Chauvet Epix fixtures also stocked by IPS, which can create a similar effect at a lower cost – although without some of the additional options and functionality. IPS also has a full range of LED fixtures, including moving head profiles, wash fixtures, battens, and much more – see some more details on our website here.

IPS hire stock includes Staging, Rigging, Lighting, Video, Sound & Power equipment, and equipment can be delivered to almost anywhere.
